Once again the kids and I made a jar of dry soup mix for their teachers. Last year they were a big hit with the teachers we gave them to.

The kids enjoy making them since they can help too. Here is Jarad adding some ingredients:

It is not that expensive either. A box of 12 jars is $9.99 (or $12.99 for the fancy ones) and about $15 for the dry stuff and it makes 12 jars. We made 11 this year.

Country Soup in a Jar
1/2 C. barley
1/2 C. dried split peas
1/2 C. uncooked rice
1/2 C. dry lentils
2 T. dried parsley
2 t. salt
1.2 t. lemon pepper
2 T. beef bouillon granules
1/2 C. uncooked alphabet pasta
1 C. uncooked twist macaroni
In a wide mouth 1 quart jar, layer the barley, peas, rice and lentil. Then layer around the edges the onion, parsley, salt, lemon pepper, bouillon and the alphabet pasta. Fill the rest of the jar with he twist macaroni.
The directions for the tag:
Add contents of jar to 3 quarts of water, some cooked ground beef, 2 stalks of chopped celery, 2 sliced carrots, and 2 cups canned diced tomatoes. Over medium low heat, cover and simmer about 1 hour or until vegetables are tender.
The kids are taking them in tomorrow.
