March 1st - Royal Tyrrell

Today the weather was clear and sunny so we headed out to Dinosaur country. It is about an hour and a half from Calgary. At first, you drive and drive through what seems like endless prairie. And then all of a sudden, you drive down into the Alberta badlands, and you are surrounded by walls of rock (with the snow covering right now, you cannot see the colors of the rocks)
When we got inside, one of the first dinosaurs we found was the T-Rex. After seeing the teeth and the size of this fellow, I am quite pleased they are no longer living amongst us.
Just another of the many fossils we saw on our visit
There was an exploration room with all these foam balls and different kinds of machines which blew the balls around. The kids found other things for the air to blow around

Jarad in particular enjoyed this room

After we had seen all the dinosaurs we could possibly see, and had spent all our money in the gift shop, we left to head back to Calgary, but not before taking a picture or two

All in all a very fun day. The roads were dry and clear. The only scary part was when we had to take a small detour because something had happened on the main road and it was blocked off by fire trucks. We had to follow an unplowed snowy dirt road, but we drove REALLY slow for that part and were back on the main road in no time. Morgan bought a CD with dinosaur songs which we listened to on the drive back to town.
Then tonight when Mark and the kids went to the ice machine, they discovered that the pool, which had been closed all week so far, had re-opened. Even after a big day out, the kids still had the energy for almost 2 hours of swimming and using the waterslide. I did not bring the camera to the pool tonight, but imagine you will be seeing some waterslide pictures tomorrow.
Not sure what we will be up to tomorrow. There is a science centre nearby, if I can get the kids out of the pool that is. Then on Friday we are off to Edmonton to visit with Anne and Jim before coming home on Sunday.
