We woke up on Tuesday morning with the intention of going to the Royal Tyrrell museum in Drumheller, but it was snowing outside and there was a storm watch for the area so it would not be safe to drive. Instead we decided to go to the Calgary Zoo, which is only 6 minutes away from the hotel. Many of the exhibits were inside so we stayed warm and dry out of the snow.

This fellow was so ugly, he was adorable.

Here are my three wild beasts.

All around the zoo were these info phones on which you could listen to facts about the animals you were seeing. Ariel really enjoyed listening to them and then telling me everything she had learned. Jarad quickly caught on to the idea.

Jarad like seeing the gorillas, but got upset when we tried to explain they were gorillas and not monkeys.

Pretty bird

One of Jarad's boots fell off and when I came back around the corner to get it, this bird was trying to carry it off. I don't think it would make a very good lunch.

We spent the most time in the Primates building, with our little monkey loving boy running all over like crazy and squealing with delight at each window.

This is Jarad and his monkey friend. They spent a few minutes just looking at each other.

There was a nice play area outside and since it was fairly warm out, we stopped to play for a few minutes
This is a burrowing owl we happened upon in the greenhouse. I love owls.
Another highlight of the day was watching the hippos under the water. There was a huge tank in one building and you could watch the hippos walking under the water as if they were just strolling along the garden path. Everyone had fun , but we were all tired out by the end of the day.
The pool has just re-opened and my family disappeared so I am going off to find them. I will post the pictures from the dinosaur museum later.
